Punta Cana (Dominican Republic), Sep 27 (IANS) Indian golfer Anirban Lahiri has entered the top-10 of the Corales Puntacana Championship after the third round of the tournament.

On Saturday, Lahiri matched the day's low round of 64 to rocket into a share of seventh place, six behind the leader. China's Xinjun Zhang fired seven birdies en route to a 4-under 68 to stay in contention.

The 33-year-old Indian was delighted to break into the top-10 after starting his week on Thursday with a triple bogey and bogey in his opening three holes before fighting back for an opening 69. He followed it up with a second round 72 which featured four birdies against as many bogeys, before producing a flawless 64 on Saturday which propelled him into a share of seventh place. He currently ranks first in Putts per Green in Regulation.

"It was great. It was, like you said, especially nice to have a clean card. I've made a bunch of silly errors over the last two days and I've been playing better than my score would suggest, so I knew that I had to come out and kind of tighten up, focus a little bit more. Hit my irons a lot better today, put some work in yesterday afternoon and I'm glad it paid off," said Lahiri.

The round of 64 marks Lahiri's lowest on Tour since a second-round 61 (-9) at the 2018 A Military Tribute at The Greenbrier. He is looking for his first top-10 finish on TOUR since a T10 at the 2018 Mayakoba Golf Classic in Mexico.
