5/3/1969Dr. Zakir Hussain(1897-1969), third President of India and the first Muslim President who occupied this office on 13 May, 1967, passed away. He is also remembered as an educationist.
1/15/1949General K. N. Kariappa became the first Indian Commander-in-Chief. He was the first Indian to reach to this post in Indian Army. In 1956, he was designated as Chief of the Army Staff - General, later Field Marshal. This event is commemoratively observed as Army Day.
7/18/1980Madras Doordashan Centre transmitted their first colour transmission for one hour in the afternoon, and this programme was re-transmitted simultaneously by Delhi Doordarshan, India.
