Presidential orders were issued on the report of the Committee of Parliament on official Languages which includes issues relating to preparation of terminology (Hindi glossaries, Hindia translation of codes and procedural literature, imparting training in Hindi to employees propagation of Hindi, language of bills, language to be used in the Supreme Court and High Court etc).

10/1/1854Postal stamp introduced in India. These lithographed stamps were of denominations of half anna and one anna. These stamps bore the Head of Queen Victoria with India at top and value at bottom. The half anna stamp was printed between May 5 to July 29 and printing of one anna stamp commenced on July 26.
4/27/1920Dr. Manibhai Desai, great Gandhian leader and Magssese Awardee, was born.
10/1/1990Justice Ranganath Mishra appointed Chief Justice of Supreme Court.
10/1/1990Sher Shah Sur died. He was fatally wounded in an explosion on Kalanjara fort while preparing for an attack. He introduced the new silver rupee-coin ""Rupiya"" based on ratio of 40 copper coin pieces (paisa) per rupee and built several roads including the longest road of India known as Grand Trunk Road (now Natioinal Highway-2).
1/9/1915Gandhiji reached Bombay on his return from South Africa. He became a member of the Indian National Congress. He was awarded Kaiseri-e-Hind Gold Medal for Ambulance service on Jan, 11.
1/21/1970Harivinayak Pataskar, former Central Minister and Governor of Madhya Pradesh, passed away.
