5/7/2000Ranjit Singh Gill, one of the prime accused in the murder of Lalit Maken and his wife Geetanjali, who was the daughter of the late President Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma, on July 31, 1985, was extradited to Delhi from the US to stand trial in the case.
6/30/1968Makhanlal Chaturvedi, famous journalist and litterateur, passed away.
12/7/1995Indian National Satellite (INSAT-2C), third indigenous satellite in the INSAT-2 series, launched. This has additional capabilities such as mobile satellite service, business communication and television outreach beyond Indian boundaries. This is still in service. It was launched by Ariane launch vehicle at French Guyana.

9/28/1985The first Indian Army expedition, sailing around the world in a small 37 feet fibre glass yacht named ""Trishna"", sailed off from Bombay. (10-1-87).
6/3/1947British Government issued the partition plan, which was worked out by Lord Louis Mountbatten in New Delhi and was accepted by both Muslim League and Congress. The salient features of the partition were, 1) Provices of Bengal and Punjab to be divided., 2) The Indians will form the constitution of India and it will only be applicable in the areas where people accept it., 3) The province of Baluchistan shall adopt proper ways to decide its future., 4) 562 Princely States shall be free to decide their own future., 5) Referendum shall be held in N.W.F.P. and Assam., 6) The Governor General of both countries shall be the executive head of their respective countries., 7) Military assets shall be divided between the two countries and 8) Red Cliff Mission was setup, to demarcate the boundaries of the two countries. India would become free on 15th August 1947.
1/22/1945The Indian 7th Division captures Tilin at Burma.
11/18/1961The Navy went into action under the command of Rear Admiral BS Soman, then Flag Officer Commanding, Indian Fleet. The ships conducted their mission in three geographical areas for liberating Goa .
